Come join us for the Tamaqua Cross Country team’s biggest fundraiser of the year!!! A great trail run followed by a BBQ provided by Sister’s!!
The Tamaqua Cross Country Boosters are excited to announce their annual Smokin 5K Walk/Run and BBQ to be held the third Saturday of August at Owl Creek Reservoir in Tamaqua. We felt that as a Cross Country team what better way to host a fund raiser, while also bring awareness to one of the hidden gems of the Tamaqua Area, Owl Creek Reservoir! The money raised helps to make sure all the kids have things they need through out the season (food is a good example) and a fair amount of items toward seasons end. We all truly appreciate all of the support the teams get each year and we hope you will continue to support them, either by running/walking/eating or just making a donation to the boosters. THANK YOU!
The run itself is different from most local 5ks being that it is run 85% or so in the woods on small trails that were put in for walking, mountain biking, hiking ... etc. There are rocks, roots, downed trees that cross the path and depending on the weather may be a water element as well. The run starts on a gravel road to help spread you all out before making a hard right turn though the grass and into the singletrack (a path wide enough for you to go singlefile) there are places to pass should the need arise but like any good race strategy is a key to this one! From there you will be on a mix of gravel road/singletrack for the remainder of the race, the end is right were you started from so there is plenty of room for sprint finish with multiple people next to each other. It is a wonderful, yet challenging course (from what we have been told over the last few years) and people that enjoy trail running come back year after year!
